What is Fermat's Last Theorem?

October 2025, Nottingham, for the Maths department's "What is...?" seminar aimed at PhD students. Based on a report I wrote during my year abroad in Bordeaux. Slides are available here but may not be of much use without the words that went with them. If you don't mind reading French and fancy knowing more, here is the original report.

Organisation

I am a co-organiser of the Nottingham mathematics PhD seminar, alongside Heath Pearson and Fraser Sparks. The talks are of an accessible nature, to foster a sense of community and increase our understanding of one another's fields of research. We encourage speakers to tell a story answering a question of the form "What is...?".
